While in Singapore, you have to maintain some rules for using mobile and that’s for your good. Especially if you have come to Singapore on business trip you need to always stay connected. You can give the landline number of the hotel where you staying but that does not help much in case you are running from one meeting to another.
While in abroad you have two options regarding carrying a mobile number. One is to use your present SIM card, if your phone service provider has a roaming service. The other option is to buy a local pay SIM card and this will give you a local number. You can call at local rates and don’t have to pay roaming charges as well.
There are some disadvantages of having a number with roaming facility such as the major disadvantage is the high costs of calling people. It will also cost you if people call you. Let’s say for example that you are in Singapore on business tour. Your appointment at 12am has been postponed. So someone wants to tell you the time of the meeting. In order to do that he would have to call your number internationally. Now if you are from the UK, he would have to call the UK. This way he has to pay for that call and you would have to pay for the part of the call from the UK to Singapore. This is a very messy thing I must say. So, according to me it is better to take a local number so that you can cut your cost to some extent.
Buying a local number i.e. going for a SIM card is the easiest and cheapest option. So, in this case if your appointments are being cancelled, the concerned person can call you at local number and you also don’t need to pay the extra roaming charges.
